WHO WE ARE

Black Box is a digital Product Design company based in Durban, South Africa. Our design process is Human Centered, and we currently focus on progressive web based apps and platforms that solve problems for our clients.

Our vision is to contribute to human flourishing by designing beautiful useful digital products. We make sure we achieve this by having multiple bottom lines which we seek and measure the flourishing of the following in order of priority: Our Team, Clients, Community and Company.

THE STORY

Here at Black Box we exist to use our skills for the flourishing of Human beings, inside and outside our company. We don’t have all the answers yet, but project by project we continue to learn the role that digital technology and information systems has to play in renewing areas of society that need help. Each time we fail, we make note of that failure, and open it up to the public to allow other people hopefully not to make the same mistakes as us!

This is why we chose the name Black Box. As you may or may not know, the black box is a piece of aviation computing hardware that records all the details of every flight. It sits in the bowels of each commercial aeroplane, and records all the metrics of the flight. It’s robust, and is designed to withstand fires, explosions and aeroplane crashes. It’s sole mandate is to guard the information. The aviation industry then in pioneering style, wrote it into law that after each aeroplane incident, the information from the Black Box would be shared with all the other airlines, regardless of competition, so that the industry could learn from it’s mistakes and provide a better service. Ultimately, it served people better both in and out of the airlines. The result; the industry flourished.

Here at Black Box we seek to do the same. We learn from others, and we share our knowledge for the benefit of the people.
